If I was in any doubt before, the five minutes it took for me to clear ice off my windscreen this morning was irrefutable proof that winter has arrived.

Now it has melted away and the sun is shining, I can try to feel a bit brighter about it all, but the truth is I don’t handle the long, cold months very well (I wonder if the northerner in me will always be sulking a little).

This winter I’ll try to keep active in the hopes of keeping any SADs (Seasonal Affective Disorder) at bay but as this post title suggests, I’m also being realistic. Or lazy.

getting organised

We’ve not put our calendars back up on the walls since the renovations were completed. In the interim I’ve been using monthly printouts on the fridge and they’re worked well – if not better – to keep our appointments and my writing schedules in order.

Yes, writing schedules. I might profess to being a bit scatterbrained at times (which is true), but I do keep to a somewhat regular regimen (blogging weaves its way in and out of this, too).

The picture above shows the printouts I just made that go from July through to December.

Best be off now to fill it in.

Also, as I was briefly talking YA writing on Friday, a Wall Street Journal article (subtitled: ‘Contemporary fiction for teens is rife with explicit abuse, violence and depravity. Why is this considered a good idea?’) has been making waves over the weekend. Adele has written her thoughts on the debate over at Persnickety Snark. She mentions the Twitter hashtag #YAsaves and it is well worth a look.
